The Blush Blindness Lie
They say blush blindness like it's a problem. We think it might be the best thing that's happened to our cheeks in years.
Now reading: The Blush Blindness Lie
Everyone's suddenly worried you're wearing too much blush. Here's a thought: she knows exactly how much she's wearing, and she'd like more.
The supposed crisis
Here's the supposed crisis: blush blindness. The idea that if you love blush, you've worn so much of it for so long that you've stopped seeing it. You've gone a little numb to your own flush. You reach for more without thinking. You can't tell where "enough" ends anymore.
We are all blush blind
And to that we say… yes? Guilty? A little blush blind, and having a wonderful time?
Because here's the thing nobody arguing about this seems to remember: blush is the most joyful thing in the entire makeup bag. It's not the serious step. It's not the one you stress over. It's the swipe of colour that takes a perfectly fine face and makes it look like something good just happened to you. If we've all collectively lost the ability to be normal about it, maybe that's not a disorder. Maybe that's just love.
The good mood in a tube
Think about what blush actually does. A little flush high on the cheek and suddenly you look like you slept well, walked somewhere cold, laughed at something five minutes ago. It's the closest thing makeup has to a good mood in a tube. Of course we keep reaching for more. Of course we stopped counting. You don't ration the thing that makes you look happy… You shouldn't.
So if "blush blindness" means we've fallen a little too in love with our own cheeks, that we add a touch more than strictly necessary because it just feels good, then honestly, leave us to it. There are worse things to be blind to than your own glow.
For your consideration
Reach for Fenty Beauty's Shake 'N Play, the buildable liquid blush made to go from one dot for a hint to two-plus for full colour, or the Rhode Pocket Blush a makeup artist swears "you truly can't over-apply." Tap it on, build it up, take it high, whatever you want. We are all a little blush blind around here. We would recommend that.
Blush blindness isn't a problem to fix. It's just what loving something looks like.
Wear it like something good just happened. Something did… you put on blush.
